A literary journal for the dark side of the Pacific Northwest.

fiction. poetry. art.

A new literary journal exploring the depth and darkness of our landscapes.

Pacific Northwest Gothic shares the traditions of gothic literature, its fascination with darkness, beauty, duality, psychological unraveling, the supernatural and uncanny, isolation, and dread, but roots them in our stunning Pacific Northwest landscapes. Here, horror seeps through the soil, the fog, the moss.

Pacific Northwest Gothic lingers in the space where nature and the paranormal meet—where time distorts, places are haunted, isolation maddens, and something unnamed watches from within the trees.

These stories are rooted in place, and for our purposes the Pacific Northwest includes Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and British Columbia. Specific towns and states don’t need to be named, but the settings should be distinctive to the region.
