Seattle-Based Literary Journal with a Focus on Gothic Fiction & Art
Based in Seattle, Washington, Pacific Northwest Gothic is a literary journal devoted to the eerie, atmospheric, and uncanny dimensions of the Pacific Northwest. We publish fiction, poetry, and art that explore the region’s shadowed forests, coastal fog, urban isolation, and the quiet unease that lingers beneath its natural beauty.
Our work leans into the gothic in both traditional and evolving forms—stories of decay, transformation, solitude, and the supernatural, grounded in place. We are especially interested in voices that engage with the cultural, ecological, and emotional landscapes of the region, revealing what is strange, haunted, or hidden within the familiar.
We publish monthly flash fiction online and an annual print issue. We prioritize writers and artists currently living in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, or British Columbia but also accept work from non-residents who have a strong connection to the Pacific Northwest (you grew up here, went to college here, lived here for a significant period of time, that sort of thing).
Take a look at our submission guidelines for more information on what we’re looking for.

Laura Grange (she/her) is based in Seattle, Washington. She has worked for several independent book publishers and magazines, including Mountaineers Books, Fantagraphics Books, Pink Fish Press, Line Zero Magazine, and was the founding editor of Portland State University’s student-run journal Pathos Literary Magazine. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Portland State University and a certificate in publishing from New York University.
Laura is the author of three young adult urban fantasy novels (written under a pseudonym she might tell you after a few drinks), and her short fiction has received recognition including an honorable mention in the 2025 Cai Emmons Short Fiction Contest. She is currently working on a gothic historical fiction novel set in–you guessed it–the Pacific Northwest.
A few of her favorite authors include Tananarive Due, Sharma Shields, Peter S. Beagle, Tom Robbins, and Ray Bradbury.

Shannon Weston (she/her) is based in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in German Literature and a minor in English. Ask her about the lore of German mermaids and you’ll lose her for an entire evening.
Her work appears in Night Shades Magazine and is forthcoming in The First Line and The NoSleep Podcast. She’s a first reader for an award winning horror podcast and is Top 3 in Killer Shorts Horror Story Prose Competition (2026). She is the author of the ecohorror chapbook “Sea Kelp / Seek Help” (Radical Bookshop, 2026).
When she isn’t writing, there’s a good chance she’s making up ridiculous nicknames for her rescue dog. She’ll never shy away from a research rabbit hole or brushing up on obscure folklore. You can keep up with her at @shanwestonwrites on Instagram and Bluesky.
Her favorite authors include Kelly Link, Angela Carter, and Shirley Jackson.

Katy Lawler (she/her) is an artist, designer, and lifelong creative based in Olympia, Washington. She received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Washington State University. She is a full-time graphic designer, and loves working with humans to help tell their stories.
Inspiration for her personal artwork comes from the peculiar, the dark, and the extraordinary. Her style involves detailed illustrative work combined with bold abstract or surrealist elements. Her work has been exhibited in local galleries and arts events in Washington, Colorado, Idaho, and North Carolina, most recently in the 2026 Federal Way Arts Explosion.
Some of her current projects include illustrating her own tarot deck and finding a wall for her next large-scale mural. You can check out her work at www.katylawlerart.com.
